WEDDING INSPIRATION: Hunger Games

With spring weddings just around the corner, I thought that this article by Rachel of MagnetStreet Weddings would be great to share.  The original article can be found here.

Hunger Games Wedding Inspiration and Ideas

The fans are hungry and ready for their next helping! The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the highly anticipated sequel to 2011′s The Hunger Games, premieres today nationwide. In celebration of its release, today’s blog post features three fun ways to weave this dystopian story into your wedding stationery, fashion, and decor. Feast your eyes on the loveliness below.

Bow and Arrows
Katniss Everdeen, the heroine of the book and film series, is a skilled archeress whose bow-hunting skills come into play quite often throughout the series. Since bow and arrows also hint at love–and Cupid’s arrow—this theme would be a lovely addition to your wedding day. There’s so many fun ways to aim at this theme:
  • Arrows “shooting” into your wedding cake
  • Inscriptions on your wedding bands
  • Bow and arrows hung from the ceiling or as table displays

To keep the look light and romantic, you could try a softer color scheme with gilded touches, as illustrated on the inspiration board below. Our Love Arrows stationery suite offers an airy palette that complements this theme very well.

Enchanted Forest
The annual Hunger Games takes place inside a giant arena—a sprawling landscape filled with dense forests, rolling meadows, grassy fields and rushing streams. This woodland panorama lends itself nicely to a rustic, outdoorsy wedding theme.
There’s a bounty of beauty and nature to explore for this theme:
  • Owl/bird feather boutonnieres
  • Twigs, berries, and pine needles
  • Botanical, organic hairpieces
  • Rustic wedding cake or dessert
You could even kick-off your woodsy wedding theme with a tree-laden Save the Date, such as the one pictured below, or another nature-inspired Save the Date design.

Fiery Fashion
If you saw the first film, then you’ll probably remember one of the more striking scenes: Katniss and Peeta, riding into the arena on a chariot, their outfits bursting in flames (literally).  Fire remains a strong theme throughout the series, as evidenced in the name of the sequel Catching Fire.

Why not heat up your wedding day with some fiery fashion and decor? A simmering palette of reds, oranges, and yellows can ignite this theme, as shown on the inspiration board below. From ombre patterning to roast-your-own s’mores (how fun is that?), there’s a lot of fun ways to turn the heat up on this theme.

Our stationery suite Whispering Feathers stationery suite takes on a fiery twist when personalized in warm red/orange hues, as pictured below.

Indian Inspired Fall Wedding Colors

Everyone has their favorite season, and mine just so happens to be autumn a.k.a Fall.  Growing up on the East Coast, you get to experience the change of seasons something that I miss now living in Southern California.  The beauty of the orange, browns and golds that nature provides in inspirational to me.

The vibrant tones, yet the subtle undertones make for a majestic display. Needless to say, when I came across this Indian inspired board over at Save The Date Events, I had to share.

Looking for some inspiration for your 2014 fall wedding? You may have just found your answer!

Wedding Ring Trends >> African American Bride Style

African American style has a look all it's own. We don't always want what everyone else says is trendy or sexy, we want what we like and what looks good on use. From the clothes we wear, to the jazz we play, its about how it makes us feel. The rhythm of the piece and how is resonates in our world.

Because I deal with the wedding ceremony only, I love to read blogs about all the other aspects of a wedding to see what they going trend is.  I came across this article on African American Brides about just that -- engagement ring trends.

I absolutely love the ring pictured and would gladly call it my own for such a special occasion. Take a look at the other rings in the article. Maybe you can find some inspiration for your big day.

Wedding Flower Trends for Spring 2013

FiftyFlowers.com, an online wholesale wedding flower provider, predicts wedding flower trends for spring of 2013. Here they provide predictions on which flowers, colors and styles are likely to adorn Spring weddings in 2013 and tips on how to create these looks.

Ojai, CA (PRWEB) February 26, 2013
With over ten years in the wholesale wedding flower business and over 50,000 brides served, FiftyFlowers.com understands wedding flowers and the ever changing flower trends. They have been listening to their brides’ requests and working with their in-house floral designer to predict this year’s spring wedding flower trends. Their predictions include combinations of soft pastels, barely-there-pinks and warm ivories paired with silvery greens and coupled with small bursts of brighter colors -- all arranged into large free-flowing bouquets and arrangements.

Brides will be looking for a romantic color pallet, with pastels and warm, earthy tones making a huge statement. Blushing pinks, light lavenders, warm peach colors and creamy ivories will be popular colors set against gray, blue and silver-tinged greens like labs ear, dusty miller and seeded eucalyptus. “Too many pastels can create a washed out look, to prevent this select one flower in a slightly brighter-shade to feature in your floral arrangements. This will help the flowers stand apart from one another. I also suggest selecting flowers with different shapes, for example a traditional round and ruffled rose like our Antique Country Pink Vanity Rose set next to our Blush Hybrid Lily provides contrast and depth,” says Violet, floral designer at FiftyFlowers.com.

Spring flowers such as creamy white anemones, tulips, daffodils, and blooming cherry blossom branches, paired with fuller flowers like hydrangeas, garden roses and lisianthus will be used to create elaborate and full arrangements. “Last year we saw considerably brighter spring flowers but this year we are expecting to see more traditional spring flowers in soft pastels combined with texture-rich flowers arranged in romantic, Victorian-inspired designs,” said CEO Liza Roeser.

Bridal bouquets are likely to show lots of texture as the unique shapes of spring flowers work their way into designs. The floral designer at FiftyFlowers.com suggests, “…filler flowers are often overlooked but are an excellent and affordable way to add texture to bouquets and other arrangements. A few of my favorite filler flowers are Craspedia Billy Balls, wax flower and spray stock. Craspedia, commonly called Billy Balls, can add a small splash of color to an otherwise pastel-inspired bouquet!”

Spring flowers remind us of fresh flower gardens and many spring wedding bouquets take their inspiration and cascading form directly from these abundant and beautiful gardens. We expect to see fewer round-molded bouquets and centerpieces and more natural, garden style bouquets with free-flowing flowers that are casual and reflect the carefree attitude of a spring garden. Expect to see lots of greenery tucked into spring centerpieces and cascading from bridal bouquets.
